By default, Windows 10 and Windows 11 do not display the ‘Recycle Bin’ and ‘My Computer’ (This PC) icons on the desktop. However, you can make them visible with just a few clicks. You can also choose from other icons, such as Control Panel, Network, and User’s Files.
Steps to Show the ‘Recycle Bin’ & ‘This PC’ icons
Right-click on any empty space over the desktop and then select Personalize
On the next screen, click on ‘Themes’ in the left-hand menu, and then click on ‘Desktop icon settings’ on the right-hand side. Note that in Windows 10, this option will be located on the right side of the panel, while in Windows 11, it’s slightly different and nested under Themes and then click Desktop icon settings. The Desktop icon settings will trigger a small popup where you will need to tick the Recycle Bin & Computer in order to make these icons visible on the desktop. If required, you can also tick the other icons such as Control Panel, Network, and User’s Files to make it visible on your desktop. Once it is done, click ‘Apply’ followed by ‘OK’ to save your changes.
