A scanned PDF is just a picture of a page — you cannot select, copy, or search its text. This tool runs optical character recognition on every image-only page and adds an invisible text layer directly on top, so the page looks exactly the same but its text becomes selectable and searchable. Pages that already contain real text are left untouched. Everything runs locally in your browser using Tesseract OCR — your file is never uploaded.
Recognized text is placed exactly over the original image, completely invisible — the page looks identical, but you can now select, copy, and search it.
Pages that already contain real text are detected automatically and left untouched, so you never double-process a mixed digital/scanned document.
Recognize text in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, or Dutch.
All OCR processing happens locally in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded to any server.
No. The original page images are left completely unchanged. The recognized text is added as an invisible layer on top, so it only affects what you can select, copy, and search — not what you see.
The tool checks each page individually. Pages that already contain real text are left as-is; only image-only (scanned) pages are OCR-ed.
Accuracy depends on scan quality and font clarity, typical of any OCR engine. Clean, high-resolution scans in a supported language recognize best. Selecting the correct document language significantly improves accuracy.
No hard limit, but OCR runs entirely in your browser, so very long documents will take proportionally longer and depend on your device's performance.
