Disappearing messages is a cool feature offered by WhatsApp that provides extra privacy to your one-to-one or group chats. Your messages will disappear after 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days, depending on the setting that you have applied. This feature also frees up phone storage, in addition to enhancing privacy. Once this feature is enabled, it will only affect messages going forward and does not impact previously sent messages.
When the setting is enabled, the other contacts will also receive a notification that the disappearing messages setting is turned on in this chat. The other user has the option to leave it ON, change the duration, or completely turn it OFF.
Please be aware that there are other ways in which people can save messages, such as taking screenshots or creating backups. Let us discuss how to enable the Disappearing Messages feature for an individual chat or group.
The above will apply the disappearing messages setting to your chats. It's important to note that this feature only affects messages going forward and does not impact previously sent messages. The Disappearing Messages setting automatically deletes messages after the specified time period, providing additional privacy and security to your chats.
